I started this series of watercolors with the mourning/white wing dove—it’s the most common bird I’ve seen in my neighborhood and around Austin. The next notable bird was a red-headed woodpecker that I could hear outside my office window, and I completed the trio of watercolors with the little jenny wren. Wrens are common in most places, but I particularly like the jenny wren (my namesake) as I discovered it in a story by Jane Goodall titled The Eagle & the Wren.
