This little beauty of a book radiates warmth and positivity. My concept for Writing Gifts required some die cutting and I started out sketching how the book would fold open. I wanted something that mindfully involved the process of opening the book. Where your hands work together to get to the contents, like opening a present.
I sent my initial sketch to Spencer Printing to see if they could take on an unusual book setup—and they DE-LIV-ERED. We went with an over-sized French flap that could be folded over the front and tucked into a die cut on the cover.
For the typesetting, I chose typestyles that harmonize with Austin Bat Cave’s branding and elevate the poetry in this collection. Lots of white space and a clean serif for the body text give the poems spaciousness and a gentle and inviting feel to the book.
